I am delighted to welcome you to our website and I hope you find what you are looking for. Of course, if we are not able to answer all of your questions then I encourage you to pick up the phone and arrange a visit to either or both of our campuses.

Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School is a government school that caters for the needs of individual learners who have a diagnosis of intellectual disability. Many students also have additional presentations including autism, mobility and medical needs.

Our school aims to maximise the intellectual, physical and social potential of each learner through a partnership with parents and carers.

The school has two equally beautiful and unique campuses. The Primary campus was established in 1998 and is located within Heritage listed buildings in Sunbury. Students between 4.8 years and grade 6 equivalent attend the Primary campus, along with a small cohort of students of secondary age.

The Bullengarook Secondary campus was established in 2008 and is on the grounds of what was once a small primary school in a quiet, rural location. A 25 minute drive separates each campus.

We look forward to changes across both campuses with over $19million in funding directed to the school for improvements and expansion since 2016.

Students come to the school from a wide geographical area and students residing within a designated transport zone can access government provided school buses.

Our dedicated and highly trained special education teachers develop individual learning plans for each child in partnership with families and carers. The teaching and learning plan is developed from the Victorian Curriculum for each year level from prep- year 10 and students in their final two years of school have the opportunity to work towards the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning.

We provide a multi-disciplinary approach to Curriculum delivery and working alongside our teachers are many dedicated and professional education support staff. A large allied health team comprising occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapist, music therapist and social worker work in unison towards achieving optimum outcomes for all students.

SMRSS is well regarded as a Centre of Expertise in the field of inclusionary practices and supporting students with a range of additional needs and we work collaboratively with mainstream schools within Sunbury and the Macedon Ranges.
